Rome announces press conference to mark start of Synod’s Continental Phase

With the Diocesan stage of the Synod recently completed, the focus now turns to the next part of the Church’s synodal process, the Continental stage. Here, bishops from nations around the world will come together and discuss what was reported by the faithful during the discussions.

The Vatican’s Communication Team for the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops has announced that the Continental Phase, which marks the second phase of the Church’s synodal process, will commence with a press conference explaining the mechanics of the next stage of the Church’s Synodal journey.

The press conference will begin at 12pm Irish time on Friday August 26, and will be attended by representatives of bishops from each continent who will gather to discuss the synod discernment in their own countries, and the Church’s working document for its 2023 global meeting of bishops.

Cardinals Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod, and Jean Claude Hollerich, appointed General Rapporteur for the upcoming Synod, will present this second phase of the synodal process on Friday.

For the occasion, some data will be provided regarding the syntheses produced following extensive consultation with the laity in the first phase of the synodal process, as well as some information regarding the way in which the Document for the Continental Phase is to be produced.

The Press Conference will be livestreamed in the original language or in one of the four languages in which it will be available (Italian, English, French and Spanish) on the Vatican News YouTube Channel, at https://www.youtube.com/c/VaticanNews
